Here's a brief summary of the three books in The Hunger Games series, chapter by chapter. 

Book 1: The Hunger Games

Chapter 1-3: The story begins with the protagonist, Katniss Everdeen, hunting in the woods with her friend Gale. We learn that Katniss lives in District 12, one of the poorest districts in Panem. She volunteers for the Hunger Games in place of her younger sister, Prim, who was selected as a tribute.

Chapter 4-6: Katniss and the other tribute from District 12, Peeta Mellark, are taken to the Capitol to prepare for the Games. They meet their mentor, Haymitch Abernathy, and their stylist, Cinna. They undergo training and make alliances with some of the other tributes.

Chapter 7-9: The Games begin, and Katniss is separated from Peeta. She forms an alliance with Rue, a young tribute from District 11, and they work together to survive. 

Chapter 10-12: Katniss and Rue plan to destroy the Careers' food supply but Rue is killed by another tribute. Katniss mourns her death and sings to her before covering her body with flowers.

Book 2: Catching Fire

Chapter 1-3: The story picks up a few months after the end of the Hunger Games. Katniss and Peeta are now living in the Victor's Village in District 12, but they are still haunted by their experiences in the Games.

Chapter 4-6: Katniss and Peeta are forced to go on a victory tour of the districts, where they are expected to act as propaganda for the Capitol. During the tour, they sense growing rebellion among the districts.
