Road to Equality

    Everyday is a Men's Day & Women's Day

The world is busy celebrating Women's Day. Everyone is wishing everyone. I did the same too.And this made me think about it seriously. I wished one of my relatives(woman) Happy Women's Day. She argued that she does not believe in Women's Day because to her it only means the marginalization of women all through the year. If a single day is observed to celebrate the rights of women,it means women are marginalized all through the year, they are brought to main steam of society on a single day.

Her words made me think  that women's day is actually a trick to marginalize them in the name of Women's Day. From times immemorial,it has been the system to undervalue and de-consider women as another significant part of human civilization. There are modifications in system where the women get various privileges. It is good to analyze and crticize from a surface level. Go deep and you will find the wrongs.

After women gained suffrage in Soviet Russia in 1917(8th March), the day is observed as a day to celebrate women's rights. There is not a problem. So,where is the problem? When you engage yourself in giving opportunities to others,it means the 'other' sections are weak.  Feminists will say "yes". But,if this continues how is it possible for women to come in the forefront and live? Opportunities and benefits make one weaker than ever. It degenerates one. She fails to believe upon her own strength.  To establish her rights, she must work with full potential, without being nurtured by any benefit.

In trains and buses, some seats are keep reserved for women(Ladies' seat). Patriarchal society is very comfortable in giving the facility of two or five seats out of 100 seats. Some may appreciate this endeavor.. But most of the time, pregnant women or old ladies are deprived of this benefit. Using this tool, women undervalue themselves. In order to establish one's right and to prove the same kind of potence, she must fight on the same platform .so,women be aware .

Now we come to 'sale'. Recently, Flipkart started its 'Women's Day Sale' on the eve of International Women's Day. Again it looks good from the surface level.  In the economic sphere, many women are incapable of buying things for their own, it's true. When you acknowledge the fact and start giving benefits, you actually continue to believe that they are weak in terms of economy. Again, the market growth is much bigger than the growth of women. Market is making its profit in its way. They are less concerned with development and growth of women than that of the growth of their industry.

This tricky marginalization will go on until and unless women themselves understand their own rights not by enjoying any special benefit but by doing something to prove it. They should not take any special shield to establish their rights because it underscores them.

The following picture looks into other significance of the Day----

'Anti-Discrimination Day' should be established instead of Men's Day or Women's Day.
