I am a book. My name is Cindrella. I was printed in Delhi, after which I was packed with my sisters and sent away to a shop. I remained on the bookshop for a few days. Then, a lady came and bought me. She gifted me to her daughter. She enjoyed reading me very much. She wrote her name on my first page and always carried me with her. I was very happy.

One day, while I was in her bag, a wicked boy came into the classroom and stole me. He erased her name by scratching it with a blade. I got deep cuts because of it and was in great pain. That boy had no interest in me. He sold me at a very low price to a man in a shop who sells second-hand book.

After a few days, a girl came and bought me. He took me home and covered me nicely with brown paper. I felt happy and comforted after a long time. She then wrote his name on me. Since the date of my birth I am always in flow. The current that flows in my upper course is very strong and here I jump very high up my natural level. My middle course begins from Haridwar. My body remains very much extended and I maintain a slow motion when I am in the plains. Before I mingle into the sea I pass though many fields and gardens, villages and towns.

Large towns and cities have been built on my banks. A few among them are being used as the main centers for education and culture, also trade and commerce. Many holy towns are situated on my banks and thousands of people come here to pay homage to their deities in days of holy festivals. Hundred of pilgrims bathe in my holy water in great devotion. I am worshipped by thousands of people as they
regard me as their deity. Boats, steamers, ships and many other water carriages ply along my body.

Autobiography of A Banyan Tree
Some call me the king of the forest, others call me Buddha’s tree. But generally, I am known as the banyan tree. Over the years, humans have come to symbolize me with life teachings of their own.
I live by the outskirts of a town. It has been a very long time since I was born and to be honest I do not know when my date of birth is. I am stationary and unlike the other trees, I do not fly about when
the wind blows or let my leaves soar in the evening breeze. While I may not be able to speak to anyone directly or let them know of my thoughts, I am glad that I can be there for them.
Over the years, I have gradually learned various different languages from listening to humans going past.
Some even take a while and sit by my shade to rest and talk to themselves to while their time away or to clear their heads. Whilst they might not know, I always stay to hear them out attentively.
As the days turn into months and months turn into a year, I keep growing farther and farther. At times I wonder that if I keep growing at the rate that I do currently, I will reach the city bounds within no time.
But I must say, I feel like I have aged a bit and life has caught on to me as nowadays my energy diminishes fast . I don’t know how long I will live. But as long as I live, I will serve people, birds and animals with all my heart. I always follow Swamiji‘s advice., “He who loves animals serves God.”
