Beauty Poem Summary Class 6 NCERT

The poet E-Yeh-Shure gives a different concept of Beauty in the poem "Beauty". Here he emphasises that beauty is in everything that we see, feel, hear or do. Everything is beautiful in its own way. All the natural objects or the scenery presents a beautiful scene before us. Sunlight is beautiful. The growing corns, people dancing and working for their harvest all are beautiful. The poet tries to find out the touch of beauty in everything present in nature.

In the second Stanza the poet discuss the auditory features of beauty. We sometimes believe that beauty is to be seen only. But poet presents a different reality indeed. The sound when night falls, the sound of rain and wind, or song of singer give pleasing touch to our mind. All these evoke the sense of beauty in our mind. So the poet concludes that beauty can not only be seen but also be heard.

The last Stanza is very important as here the poet discusses the actions that reflect beauty. Beauty is in thought and action. Every human soul is beautiful. Our dreams that add to the development of humanity are beautiful as there lies the deep song of humanity. Beauty is present in the style of work, the style of rest and even in sleep as it gives peace to mind. Our attitude to a thing makes it beautiful. The thing that is mostly needed is a good heart to feel the sense of beauty in everything.

Beauty Poem Questions Answers Class 6 NCERT

Working with the  Poem

1. The poet says, “Beauty is heard in …”

Can you hear beauty? Add a sound that you think is beautiful

to the sounds the poet thinks are beautiful.

Answer: Beauty is heard in melodies.

The poet, Keats, said:

Heard melodies are sweet,

But those unheard are sweeter.

What do you think this means? Have you ever ‘heard’ a song in

your head, long after the song was sung or played.

Answer:  yes. The music that we hear are beautiful but some music remain with us. That creates a sense of beauty in our mind and thought even the the original music is gone. The beautiful effect of the song creates this effect.

2. Read the first and second stanzas of the poem again. Note the

following phrases.

corn growing, people working or dancing, wind sighing,

rain falling, a singer chanting

These could be written as

• corn that is growing

• people who are working or dancing

Can you rewrite the other phrases like this? Why do you think the

poet uses the shorter phrases?

Corn growing: Corn that is growing

People working: People who are working

Wind sighing: Wind that is sighing

Rain falling : Rain that is falling

A singer chanting: A singer who is chanting

The poet uses these shorter phrases for rhyme in the poem. Shorter forms create more impact in the poem.
